“Someone special was born today. His name is Jesus, and He will save us.” ~ Luke 2:13-14
Come here, little sister. Scoot closer cause I’m going to
tell you a story. You can cuddle up in my lap and hold my hand. I’m gonna tell
you a story about the most special baby ever. It’s not scary. It’s
not very long and there are animals.
A looooong time ago, a teeny-tiny baby named
Jesus was born. His mommy and daddy had to travel to a town called Bethlehem.
Wow - what a mess it was! People everywhere! Bumping elbows, stepping on toes,
saying things like, “Excuse me!” and “Hey, that’s my foot!”
And guess what? Every hotel said, “Nope, no room!” Not even a very small room. Can you believe that?
So they found a stable instead. That’s a place where animals
live! There was hay everywhere; cows, sheep, and donkeys, too. Honestly, it
smelled a little yucky!
I think the cows tried to sneak a peek at baby Jesus.
They’re so nosy! But Jesus didn’t mind. He just slept in a little box, wrapped
in soft blankets.
Then… WHOOSH! – lots of angels flew
in! Their wings were sparkly. They were really funny! They twirled and tumbled
in the sky. I think one angel even juggled a few stars! One even bumped into a
cloud, so all the stars started laughing.
They sang songs that sounded like
giggles and bells. “Come see the new baby! He’s here,” one angel shouted
in a squeaky voice. The shepherds were scared at first, but then they ran to
see the baby and knelt down, smiling.
Sheep tap danced, donkeys hummed, cows mooed – but not too loud. Everyone
was being extra quiet because of the baby.
Then, after that, three really smart men came, riding tall camels
and wearing shiny robes and funny hats. They gave the baby some shiny gold, sweet-smelling
smoke, and myrrh (I don’t really know what that is, but everyone nodded
politely).
Because it was dark, those guys had followed a star from very
far away just to see Jesus. Isn’t that cool? I think the baby smiled back at
them, cause he couldn’t talk yet.
Wanna know the best part? The
little baby loves everyone. You. Me. Mom. Dad. Even annoying brother Eric. Even
animals and the clumsy angels who bumped into clouds. That’s why we celebrate
Christmas. Because the world got a baby who brought happiness and lots of hugs.
So close your eyes, and picture
baby Jesus sleeping in the hay, angels twirling and singing and juggling stars,
and wise men bringing gifts. Everyone is smiling, because He brought the best
gift ever: love that’s bigger than anything - for you, me, and everybody we
know.
Sleep now, little sister. Dream
sweet dreams, because Jesus loves you - even when you’re sleeping.
Dear Jesus, thank You for being born. Thank
the angels, shepherds, and wise men who brought gifts, also. Help me be kind
and loving like You. Please watch over my family, friends, and pets tonight. Amen
